Vinland Saga Season 2 Episode 20 Summary

We recap the Crunchyroll and Netflix anime series Vinland Saga Season 2 Episode 20, “Pain,” which contains spoilers.

Although we have the advantage in numbers, Ketils (Hideaki Tezuka) Men fought against it very much Canute’s (voiced by Kensho Ono) more experienced army. Lucky for Thor finn (Yuto Uemura)He managed to escape Leif (Yoji Ueda), Einar (Shunsuke Takeuchi)and even Arnheid (Mayumi Sako) without having to fight.

There’s no telling how long this fight between Canute and Ketil will last, but hopefully Thorfinn and his friends will be long gone by then.

Vinland Saga Season 2 Episode 20 Summary

The episode begins with Ketil and Canute’s men fighting each other. As Fox As he realizes how inferior they are, his fear grows. If he freezes instead of saving BadgerSnake intervenes, killing Canute’s soldiers and instructing Fox to flee with Badger while calling his army to retreat.

Does Ketil die in war?

When it is revealed that one of Canute’s men beheaded Ketil, Wulf searches for confirmation. However, Snake barely finds Ketil alive on the battlefield as Canute’s men begin to retreat to aid him.

Does Thorgil Kill Canute?

Though Thorgil manages to ambush Canute, he doesn’t get a chance to kill Canute. Instead, Canute manages to save herself in time to be rescued by Wulf.

Though he was unprepared Thorgil will not be killed in battle. After an injury Wulf, he manages to escape back into the sea to swim away. Even after trying to kill him, Canute states that he would like Thorgil to work for him again.

Who will win the war between Canute and Ketil?

In the end, it is Canute who wins the war against Ketil.

Even after waking up and speaking, Arnheid is clearly too weak to continue. Despite Thorfinn’s attempt to save her life through CPR, she dies from her injuries.

Vinland Saga Season 2 Episode 20 ending explained

When Einar sees Snake carrying Ketil from the battlefield, his first reaction is to kill him in revenge for Arnheid. However, Thorfinn stops him by begging him not to go down the same path he took.

After burying Arnheid, Thorfinn talks to Canute to put an end to the incessant death and violence. Though Leif begs him to return to Iceland, Thorfinn promises to return alive.

Whoever titled this episode “Pain” really meant it. This was simultaneously the most exciting and heartbreaking episode of the season. The contrast between the brutal deaths of the men on the battlefield and the slow, sentimental death of Arnheid really touched me as I watched it all play out.

This all confirmed Thorfinn’s right that all the violence this season is futile.

At any point this season, a conversation between Canute and Thorfinn would have been epic, but seeing the events that led up to this moment only heightens the anticipation for next week’s episode.

I didn’t think about the storytelling Vinland saga could improve, but like most fans, I get nervous every week because it’s so good. With only a few episodes left, I’m excited to see how they carry that momentum to the end.
