On Tuesday afternoon, a bird proved no match for the Leviathan roller coaster at Canada’s Wonderland.

And unfortunately, at least one park visitor had to bear the brunt of it.

Toronto native Hubert Hsu told Toronto CTV News that he was sitting in the front row of the coaster next to an unknown woman around 2 p.m. when she collided with a bird, possibly a pigeon, at the top of one of the coaster’s loops.

“I looked down and saw blood on my hands and face,” Hsu told CTV. “There was a feather on my hand and there were feathers on the girl’s shirt next to me. It seemed like the coaster car hit the bird and then it kind of exploded on us.”

Canada’s Wonderland confirmed the incident to the Sunstating, “At approximately 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16, a guest reported an incident involving a bird on the Leviathan roller coaster.”

Hsu told CTV that there was also some blood in the row behind him, but that Canada’s Wonderland staff only responded when warned by other coaster riders.

“I asked for towels and they gave us these disposable brown paper towel rolls like you see in industrial schools,” he told CTV. “I ended up washing it up in the washroom as best I could. We could probably have made a bigger deal out of it. But at the same time, the kids working at the park seemed to have no idea what to do and that could be a problem.”

In their statement, Canada’s Wonderland said, “First aid was offered but declined and no guest injuries were reported.”
