summary

A relatively light, character-packed penultimate episode sets the stage for the grand finale.

This synopsis of Warrior Nun Season 2 Episode 7, “Psalms 116:15” contains spoilers.

The penultimate episode of warrior nun Season 2, “Psalms 116:15,” ties directly into the plot of warrior nun Season 2, Episode 6. Ava and Lilith eventually go head-to-head in a fireworks display of special effects, some better than others, as Adriel’s finale takes place pest, a sun that only roasts unbelievers burns upon them. It’s a cool fight, but nothing compared to some of the longer, more physical action sequences earlier in the season; it’s a bit too weightless and computer generated for me. Despite this, it builds to a stalemate and Ava is able to escape.

Warrior Nun Season 2 Episode 7 Summary

But get out of the frying pan and into the fire, emotionally speaking. When Ava returns to the lab, she witnesses the end of Mother Superion’s emotional death scene. Rather than just letting them fade away quickly, “Psalm 116:15” agonizes over the matter, with Superion contemplating aloud whether her many mistakes and regrets will exclude her from forgiveness and from her place in heaven. It’s an extraordinarily morbid death, so maybe it’s just as well that the Halo inexplicably brings Superion back to life as Ava lies down beside her to weep at her death, younger and refreshed.

Mother Superion suspects that because she is a previous Halo wearer, she still has a connection to the mythical object. That’s enough of an explanation, I suppose.

Good news aside, things are still not looking good for the OCS. Camila and Yasmine are missing. Beatrice has a crisis of faith. The crown of thorns is gone. We’re getting closer to the final and things are worse than ever.

But they start spinning. As we learn, Camila is being held captive with Todd, the handsome Samaritan she used to like, but he is eventually taken away and turned into one of Adriel’s drones. However, Yasmine is able to free Camila.

Meanwhile, Ava encounters Vincent, who reveals that he took the crown of thorns to keep her away from Adriel. He gives it to the warrior nun as atonement, although he still has a long way to go. However, he seems genuinely interested in helping, and there’s no point in him plotting another betrayal. Instead, he allows Ava to use his Divinium tattoos to communicate with Adriel and then watches over her as she steps into another realm with the crown to try and find a solution to her current predicament, where the episode ends.

This is a light episode, the shortest of the season, bucking the trend of penultimate episodes being all-action grand finale setups. Instead, “Psalm 116:15” is contemplative and mostly about characters coming to terms with where they are and what they’re up to. It’s an unconventional approach, but our familiarity with these key characters carries the drama as we head into the final showdown.
