Watch: DeSantis Goes Scorched Earth on Dem Who Accuses Him of Human Trafficking

Florida’s GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis’ decision to fly four dozen migrants to Martha’s Vineyard last week has brought the border crisis into focus.

Of course, Democrats are outraged by the move and have accused DeSantis of using people as political pawns. This was particularly ironic considering only 48 migrants were involved, a tiny fraction of the thousands of illegal immigrants who stream across our open southern border each day.

Perhaps the most absurd reaction to DeSantis’ political stunt was that of Sheriff Javier Salazar, a fiercely partisan Democrat from Bexar County, Texas, who views the incident as human trafficking. During a news conference Monday, which can be seen on the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, he announced that he had opened a criminal investigation into the incident. Salazar claims the migrants were “lured” by the Migrant Resource Center and “ultimately left to their own devices in Martha’s Vineyard, MA.”

DeSantis came out on Fox News’ “Hannity” in a Monday night appearance. Host Sean Hannity pointed out that the Biden administration “every day flew and bused illegal immigrants across the country in the dark of night and just left them in the middle of the street. So why are they only now paying attention to 50 people? you sent?”

Never mince words, DeSantis has brought Salazar and all the others who dishonestly accuse him of human trafficking to scorched earth. “Since Biden has been president, millions of people have crossed the southern border illegally. Is that why you freaked out?” he asked rhetorically. “No. They let migrants die in the Rio Grande. They let 50 die in a trailer in Texas [a reference to a June 28 incident in San Antonio, Texas] … They got criminal aliens to cross that southern border and victimize Americans, kill some, rape some. …And then of course we know that deaths from fentanyl are at an all-time high.”

Is the media focusing enough on Biden’s role in the border crisis?

Regarding Martha’s Vineyard, he noted, “They said they were a sanctuary jurisdiction. These were people who were basically destitute and then put in a situation where they could have been successful, but it was all a sign of virtue. And not only did they not welcome them, they deported them with the National Guard the next day. Give me a break.”

“They signed all the consent forms… It was clearly voluntary… And given where they were, why didn’t they want to go? … Sean, there are jobs in Martha’s Vineyard. There is accommodation in Martha’s Vineyard. Had they done what they set themselves to do…a sanctuary jurisdiction, they could have taken these people in with no problem.”

Noting that the islanders said they didn’t have the resources to care for the migrants, the governor said: “Let’s just say that’s true for a minute. Now what does that mean for these poor Texas towns? What does that mean for these other places across the country that are seeing influx? What does it mean for the small towns where Biden dumped so many people?

“So, I think we were able to show that this limit is a disaster. Biden failed at this as much or more than any other policy, and now people are talking about it. And as Americans, we want solutions. We want to make sure Trump’s remain-in-Mexico policy can be reinstated so that we can gain control of what’s going on down there.

“They accuse the governors of Arizona, Texas and me of political stunts… But the biggest stunt was Biden taking office and reversing Trump’s policies. Not because Trump’s policies didn’t work. He reversed them because he wanted to give his base a signal of virtue and show that he thought Donald Trump was bad. …And he undid it because he knew what would happen in the end. And that’s how he pulled off the biggest political stunt.”

Sheriff goes after DeSantis, invents ‘brilliant’ idea for illegals, users are quick to point out glaring problem

During his Monday press conference, Salazar said he couldn’t yet determine which law was broken, “but I can tell you it’s wrong. From a human rights perspective alone, what was done to these people is wrong.”

breathtaking. Is the government now investigating people because a Texas sheriff thinks what they did was “wrong”?

Apparently the answer is yes. Anything goes because… Trump.

The sheriff made the rounds on liberal cable networks, urging San Antonio restaurants to hire migrants to help address the state’s labor shortage after the Biden administration made it more lucrative for the unemployed to stay at home than take low-paying jobs.

From the behavior of the extremely partisan CNN host Alyson Camerota, even she didn’t buy it.

Hillary Clinton appeared on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” last Friday and agreed with host Joe Scarborough’s striking claim that DeSantis’ flight of migrants to Martha’s Vineyard was “literally human trafficking” and that nobody wanted open borders, Fox News reported.

George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley explained at length on his website why the claim was “legal nonsense”. He wrote, “The Department of Justice has long interpreted its mandate to prosecute under this provision as ‘a crime involving the exploitation of a person for labor, service or commercial sex.'”

DeSantis’ move was a masterpiece. Unless you happen to live in a border state, it’s relatively easy to forget how bad the crisis has gotten. The Democrats want it to stay that way. After all, it’s so much easier to support the Biden administration’s ruthless agenda when you’re isolated from the consequences.

The Florida governor’s action has succeeded in bringing this issue to the forefront. Everyone is talking about it and the midterms are less than 50 days away. Watch: DeSantis Goes Scorched Earth on Dem Who Accuses Him of Human Trafficking
