Watch Federal Reserve’s Waller speak live on the economy and interest rates

Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller is scheduled to address the Council on Foreign Relations in New York at 1 p.m. Friday. CNBC’s Steve Liesman will then lead a question and answer session.

Waller’s comments are the last before Fed officials enter a blackout period ahead of their Jan. 31-February 31. 1 policy session. Markets broadly anticipate that the rate-setting Federal Open Market Committee will raise its reference rate by another quarter of a point, bringing it to a target range of 4.5% to 4.75%.

Other Fed officials have said in recent days that they believe rates still need to rise, but by smaller increments than the hikes that lifted the Fed’s interest rate by 4.25 percentage points in 2022.
