The work began at 6 p.m. and will last until midnight.
Welham Road is closed between Springfield Garth and St Nicholas Street while the carriageway is resurfaced.
The road will be closed again tomorrow evening (Tuesday) from 6pm to midnight.
There is a diversion via Langton.
Scott Hill (Bazley’s Lane) is said to be overloaded.
