swarm is a Prime Video series released on the streaming platform on March 17, 2023. The seven-episode series follows Dre, a bumbling girl whose obsession with a pop star becomes dark and twisted. Marissa is the (adopted) sister of the main character Dre. Her relationship with Dre was complex as not many people liked her for her awkwardness.

Marissa dies of an apparent overdose. Marissa and Dre had a big argument about her birthday and her boyfriend Khalid. One thing leads to another, Dre goes into town and Marissa spends the night with Khalid.

That night, Dre went home with another man, but the next morning she woke up to hundreds of texts and missed calls from Marissa. Khalid and Marissa had gotten into a big argument and Marissa needed Dre to pick her up to get her away from him. When Dre comes home, she finds a lifeless Marissa on her bed.

Is Marissa Confirmed Dead?

Yes, Marissa is confirmed dead. After finding Marissa’s body in the bed, Dre took her to the hospital. In the waiting room, we watched the doctors break the news to Dre and confirm her death.

It is confirmed later in the episode when Dre comes to the funeral and sees Marissa’s body in the coffin. It’s also referenced in the rest of the show by several key characters using death/blaming others.

Who plays Marissa?

Actress Chloe Bailey plays Marissa swarm. Bailey is known for her role in the Freeform series Adult where she plays the role of Jazz Forster. Bailey is also known as one half of Chloe x Halle, a musical duo with her sister, Halle Bailey.

The duo has received five Grammy nominations since 2018. She will release her debut studio album as an artist, In Pieces, due out in 2023.
