Wheat acreage jumps 5-fold to 7.56 lakh hectares so far this rabi season

New Delhi: The area covered for wheat increased five-fold to 7.56 lakh hectares in the current ‘Rabi’ winter sowing season, according to Agriculture Ministry data. The wheat acreage was 1.47 lakh hectares in the same period last year.

In the case of oilseeds, coverage of about 47.10 lakh hectares was reported on November 4th of this Rabi season, compared to 40.72 lakh hectares previously.

Of the total oilseeds, mustard acreage increased from 38.14 lakh hectares to 45.71 lakh hectares.

The area covered for legumes increased from 27.13 lakh hectares to 29.06 lakh hectares.

However, the acreage of coarse grain fell from 8.67 lakh hectares to 7.63 lakh hectares.

The Rabi sowing season begins in October. Wheat and mustard are the two main crops of the Rabi season.
