Where is the 2023 World Cup taking place and why is Pakistan threatening to boycott?

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is threatening its withdrawal from the 2023 World Cup. Many fans are puzzled by this latest development as Pakistan has a quality line-up and is one of the best teams in world cricket.

The 2023 World Cup will be held in India from October to November. Pakistan is considering boycotting the mega-event as BCCI secretary Jay Shah, who is also chairman of the Asian Cricket Council, has decided to move the 2023 Asia Cup out of Pakistan.

International cricket has gradually resumed in Pakistan in recent years, with teams from around the world visiting the country for international cricket matches. However, due to the political tensions between the two nations, India was reluctant to visit its neighboring country.

Next year Asia Cup will be held at a neutral venue, not in Pakistan – Jay Shah (ACC President)

Originally it said the BCCI was open to a trip to Pakistan for next year’s Asia Cup, pending government approval. However, following the BCCI AGM, Jay Shah stated that the 2023 Asia Cup will be held at a neutral venue.

PCB were surprised by Jay Shah’s statement and hinted at withdrawing from the 2023 World Cup

The Pakistan Cricket Board issued a statement responding to Jay Shah’s words by saying its decision could affect the men in green’s future visits to India for ICC events, including the 2023 World Cup.

“The overall impact of such statements has the potential to divide the Asian and international cricket community and may affect Pakistan’s visit to India for the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup and future ICC events in India in the 2024-2031 cycle,” reads in a statement read by the media release.

The 2023 World Cup is just under 12 months away. It remains to be seen whether Pakistan will take part in the mega event. Meanwhile, India and Pakistan will face off in the 2022 T20 World Cup this Sunday (October 23) in Melbourne.
