Where was the Netflix movie Troll (2022) filmed? We discuss the popular film and its filming locations.

Just by the poster troll looks interesting as the face comes out of a mountain. It’s one of the most intriguing Netflix Posters, and that’s why people flock there. Deep within the Dovre Mountains, something massive awakens after a thousand years of captivity. The creature destroys everything in its path and quickly approaches Oslo. It’s another monster movie, but director Roar Uthaug takes a different approach because it chooses to cover a huge area while thereafter making Oslo its main destination.

The way he highlights these scenic landscapes while diving into Dovre with the troll is visually stunning and makes the film entertaining. As in the other monster movies, there is a group of heroes trying their best to stop the troll and understand what he’s going through.

Being awakened from peaceful sleep and then having your eyes opened to a whole new world can be harrowing, and instead of shooting the troll, they try to help it. It’s a different approach, but some of the characters don’t think it’s right because they don’t know what he’s capable of.

The Kaiju’s location is in the Norwegian mountains, and director Uthaug really captures it in the best light. Although it blends in with the other mountains and greenery, it’s still easy to spot. Hiding in plain sight is probably the best use of your surroundings because of the tension and fear tactics.

Where was the Netflix movie Troll filmed – a breakdown of filming locations

Oslo, Norway

According to that Oslo Film Commission, the city is a diverse and film-friendly region, and the commission will help you find suitable locations for filming locations. The more that is filmed in Oslo, the better for the city’s attractiveness.

So there’s a certain meaning that comes with filming troll there with a cast and crew consisting mostly of Norwegians. The landscape makes up the beauty on screen, while the troll itself looks grotesque and does some questionable things to the land. Like any other film community, they want to set up their filming locations within their own production companies and outside the region.

Seeing every inch of Oslo’s outskirts while this gigantic troll wreaks havoc makes you almost realize how much went into the on-location shot with the VFX. They’re outdoors for most of the film, and it just looks more authentic on location. This obviously isn’t something that could happen like Godzilla or King Kong, but because they’re shooting on location with those wide-angle shots, it plants the viewer right there with the other characters and the troll.

Oslo is a beautiful place and there is a lot of open country like Ireland to take as much of the area as possible to make it look that great.
