Whittard Tea and Cafe in Durham is closing for emergency repairs
Whittard of Chelsea, an upscale tea and coffee retailer in Durham’s Market Square, has been closed for several weeks – loyal customers were concerned when signs appeared on the shop’s door reading ‘Due to unforeseen circumstances this shop has had to close’. .
A spokesman for Whittard of Chelsea confirmed the store should be reopening soon, with the current closure being a “purely temporary measure” to allow for emergency repairs to the building where the store is located.
No exact date has been set for when the store will reopen at this time, but a spokesman said: “We hope to be open again in a few weeks.”

The popular liquor store was a fixture on Durham’s High Street for years and developed a loyal customer base within Durham’s resident and student communities.
Whittard of Chelsea has served the country with “the finest tea, coffee and hot chocolate” since 1886.
