Who will win today’s 1st Test?

Sri Lanka and Pakistan will face off in the first Test of the two-game series from July 16. Galle International Stadium will host the opening match of the series.

Sri Lanka recently hosted Australia in a two-game Test series that ended in a 1-1 draw. They faced a massive loss in the first game but made up for it by beating Australia by an innings and 39 runs in the second game to even the streak.

Sri Lanka put in a good all-around performance in the second game to dominate Australia and complete a handsome win. Due to COVID-19 problems, the lankers were missing some of their regular players. However, they managed to put everything aside and come together as a unit.

The team bowled Australia for 364 runs in the first innings and scored a large total of 554 in response. In the second innings, the Sri Lankan spinners put on a great performance to take Australia for 151 and complete a stunning win.

Dimuth Karunaratne, Kusal Mendis and Angelo Matthews scored fifties while Dinesh Chandimal scored an undefeated double hundred. Prabath Jayasuriya recorded 12 wickets with the ball on his debut.

Pakistan, on the other hand, lost their previous friendly series at home 1-0 to Australia. The first two games yielded no result while Australia won the final game to seal the streak. Pakistan are in full force on this tour and will need their older players to improve.

This series is also part of the ICC World Test Championship cycle and both teams can play for valuable points. It should be another exciting series.

Will Pakistan (PAK) beat Sri Lanka (SL)?

Sri Lanka will come back fresh from their win over Australia, where they performed well as a team with both racquet and ball. Their older players performed while the newcomers to the squad were equally impressive, balancing their squad well.

The Lankers will be confident given the fact that they will be back playing at home having just wrapped up the Australia series.

Pakistan is challenged by Sri Lanka’s crackpots. Even though they have batters who spin well, the team still needs to be at their best. The likes of Babar Azam, Abdullah Shafique, Imam-Ul-Haq, Azhar Ali and Mohammad Rizwan have to do well with the racquet.

While Pakistan boasts a strong fast bowling line-up, concern for them will be their spin department. Their spinners need to make good use of the conditions to cause problems for Sri Lanka’s batters.

It is expected to be a cracker of a competition and Sri Lanka will go into this match with an advantage over their opponents.
