Who will win, who should win?

Best Original Screenplay
Should win: Liquorice Pizza, Paul Thomas Anderson
Will win: Belfast, Kenneth Branagh
Branagh’s absence from the director category – hey, it’s the jury’s fault – could well tip the scales in his favor here.
Best Adapted Screenplay
Should win: Drive my car, Ryusuke Hamaguchi and Takamasa Oe
Will win: The Prodigal Daughter, Maggie Gyllenhaal
Against some truly fierce competition (and, ahem, CODA), Gyllenhaal’s brilliantly intelligent adaptation of Elena Ferrante’s novella feels like it has the edge.
Best Animated Film
Should and will win: The Mitchells against the machines
Bafta has an interesting track record in this category, slipping back and forth between Disney and Pixar productions to support a deserved third option, and Netflix’s hugely entertaining family adventure certainly is that.
