Wilko branches in Great Britain are threatened with being closed due to bankruptcy

Mark Jackson, chief executive officer of Wilko, announced last week that the company is expected to file for bankruptcy after failing to secure a takeover to help the company with “increasing liquidity pressures”.

Wilko filed a letter of intent to appoint administrators with the Supreme Court last Thursday (3 August).

Wilko currently has 408 stores across the UK and last week bankruptcy news endangers around 12,000 jobs.

Last year the retailer agreed to a £40million loan deal restructuring Specialist Hilco after significant losses.

Earlier this year, Wilko hired advisors from PwC to find a buyer and secure new financing.

But last week, Mr Jacskon said that Pursue had “no choice” but to file for bankruptcy.

However, we will continue to look for a possible rescue takeover.

Mr Jackson said: “While we can confirm that we have had significant interest, including indicative offers which we believe would meet all of our financial criteria to recapitalize the Company, the time is today (Thursday 3 August). not the case.” An offering that will provide the required liquidity in the time available to us given the increasing liquidity pressures we are facing.

“We will continue to advance discussions with interested parties with the goal of completing a transaction that preserves business and encourage the interested parties with whom we are in discussions to move forward as quickly as possible.

A Wilko spokesman reassured customers that despite last week’s announcement, there were no immediate plans to close stores.

A Wilko spokesman said: “Due to the announcement, no immediate branch closures are planned and business operations will continue as usual during this period.”

Mr. Jackson added, “We remain confident that our robust turnaround plan with ongoing cost savings as we re-stabilize will result in a profitable Wilko and maximize the significant opportunities we know exist.”
