Will Mal and Alina get together in Season 2 of Shadow and Bone?

shadow and bone is a sprawling fantasy epic Netflixdeveloped by writers Eric Hoterer and based on the enormous popular young adult novel series by Leigh Bardugo, known as the Grishaverse. Fantasy and adventure may be the tentative genres in this hugely successful teen-focused series, but romance is another key element of the show.

What happens to Alina and Mal in Season 2 of Shadow and Bone?

Childhood friends Alina and Mal enter Season 2 full of hope and anticipation as they embark on their first solo adventure together. They find themselves in Novyi Zem looking for the next enhancer (a magical creature that can enhance Alina’s powers), the Sea Whip. They share a hotel suite and a bed. Love is in the air between the two and they seem happier than ever.

Kirigan warns Alina that she will soon outgrow her lover, hinting that as her powers develop, she will become isolated from the others and quickly tire of Mal. She later finds the sea whip and saves Mal’s life by taking the creature’s life and claiming its powers. These powers surge through her body, nearly destroying her, but Mal manages to calm her down and save her for a change. His presence and love for her keep Alina grounded.

The importance of their mission becomes even greater as they forge a new alliance with Prince Nikolai and his army. Nikolai proposes an engagement to Alina to strengthen loyalty and prevent her and Mal from being constantly hunted. It’s a political maneuver that still has serious repercussions on their relationship. Mal proves loyal and accepts this proposal for the greater good. Unfortunately, he is soon captured and separated from Alina.

During this breakup, Alina attempts to sever her connection with Kirigan. It almost works, but Mal’s return hampers Alina’s progress. This is where the cracks in the lovebird’s romance are showing for the first time. Mal doesn’t want Alina to come to harm, he’s very protective of her, but she wants to use her powers to destroy Kirigan and the fold no matter the cost.

Their relationship is further tested when Mal discovers he is the next Amplifier, the Firebird. Unwilling to sacrifice his life to gain his powers, Alina refuses to accept Mal’s end. Both lovers don’t want the other to suffer or die because of their mission, but Mal bravely accepts his fate. Before the pair sacrifice their lives, the pair attempt to merge their powers within the fold and it works beautifully, but Mal is mortally wounded in the process anyway. Faced with impending death, Alina finally agrees to kill her lover by stabbing him in the chest. The agony of his death prompts Alina to release all her pent-up anger. This burst of energy destroys the entire fold.

Will Mal and Alina get together? shadow and bone Season 2?

Nina tries to bring Mal back to life, but it’s no use; he is too far away. Alina uses dark powers called Merzost to revive Mal and bring him back from the dead. Alina is overjoyed to have her partner back, but Mal is forever changed by the experience. He’s not the same as he was before. He wonders what his purpose is now in this new world he saved. Mal understands that his future is very different from Alina’s. Mal decides to break up with Alina, which means they don’t get together shadow and bone Season 2.

Mal decides to set sail with Nikolai’s comrades and become a privateer. Nikolai even gives Mal his alias and secret identity of Sturmhond. They are next seen in the near future trying to rescue slaves from a slave ship. Alina stays by Nikolai’s side and becomes queen. She seems to like Nikolai, although there are no signs of real love or romance between the two yet.

Will Alina end up with Mal?

At the end of Season 2, Alina and Mal are worlds apart, with different futures and destinies. It seems unlikely that they’ll get back together anytime soon, but there are still plenty of stories to tell. as you will know shadow and bone is based on a major series of novels, and the lives of these two main characters are far from over. So what can we expect in future episodes and what happens to Alina and Mal in the books? Warning, as expected, massive spoilers are ahead.

Well, fans will be happy to hear that Alina and Mal are getting married in the books, specifically in the third book in the series, Ruin and Rising. They adopt new names and marry. They then rebuild the orphanage of their childhood in Keramzin together, which they then run as a married couple for the rest of their lives.
