Renowned English broadcaster Piers Morgan has backed Cristiano Ronaldo’s decision to leave Manchester United this summer, claiming the Red Devils are now a complete ‘train wreck’.
acc Fabrizio Romano, Ronaldo has submitted his transfer request and his agent Jorge Mendes is actively trying to find a new club for the 37-year-old. While some media and fans have attacked Ronaldo for wanting to leave Old Trafford, Morgan sees this as a perfectly acceptable response from the Portuguese.
Speaking to the Sun, he tipped the former Real Madrid superstar to move away from the “rotten excuse of a huge club” as soon as possible. He said:
“Ronaldo will bail himself out of his living nightmare by having a rotting pretense for a massive global club that now bears no resemblance to the iconic place where he first cut his GOAT teeth.
“He may be 37 years old but he’s still fitter than most players and scored 18 Premier League goals last season, second to joint Golden Boot winners Mo Salah and Son.”
Morgan went on to claim that if Ronaldo hadn’t started with 18 goals in the Premier League last season, Manchester United would have been in a relegation battle.
“Yet pathetic media snipers have blamed United’s troubles on HIM, which is utter nonsense. Without him they would have fought for relegation.
“Ronaldo has looked at the terribly ambitious way United run these days – and the woefully justified attitude of many younger players – and wants to outrun this trainwreck faster than Usain Bolt, United’s fastest fan. I don’t blame him.”
Manchester United can’t afford to sell Cristiano Ronaldo before signing a replacement
Anthony Martial impressed fans with his performances for Manchester United in the pre-season, scoring three goals in five games.
The Frenchman has found himself at home in Erik ten Hag’s system and could prove to be a real source of goals for Manchester United over the course of the 2022-23 season.
Despite United having an in-form Martial, they cannot let Ronaldo go, at least not before signing a replacement. Having left Edinson Cavani on a free transfer, Ronaldo and Martial are currently the only two experienced centre-forwards available to Ten Hag.
Without a capable striker for the wanton Portuguese, Ten Hags United could find it difficult to remain in the running for the Premier League top four.
