Woman complains that she can’t afford luxury holiday on her £50k salary – but people aren’t impressed

A WOMAN has been slammed online after complaining she can’t afford a holiday – despite being on a £50,000 salary.

The well-paid wife is preparing for her husband’s 50th birthday in 2024 and wants to treat him to a holiday.

However, after he spent £11,000 to take her to the Maldives for her 40th, she believes the pressure is on to top his gift.

She took to parenting forum Mumsnet to ask if it was unreasonable not to cover her husband’s expenses because he earns three times as much as her.

She wrote: “My husband will be 50 in 2024 and has started talking about where we are going.

“When I turned 40 he spent a lot of money to get me to the Maldives, I think around £11,000. He expects the same in return.

“The thing is I only make £50,000 a year while he makes more than three times that.

“I have savings that might cover it but this is rainy day money, you never know when you might need it, especially given how the world is at the moment.

“I suggested a lovely place in St Lucia, top notch with a la carte restaurants, premium branded alcohol etc.

“But he’s unhappy there isn’t a private pool. I couldn’t even afford the swim up room.

“I just feel like he has no understanding of my income and my means. Am I unreasonable?

However, her post backfired and instead of siding with her, they pointed to her and her husband’s joint income and told her to stop complaining.

One wrote: “Nice stealth boast. £200,000 a year and great holidays. Have fun.”

Another simply said, “Enjoy your privileged dilemma.”

A third added: “You are unreasonable to release the details of your very comfortable life to an audience that includes many people concerned about how to support their families and heat their homes.”

However, there was some sympathy for the woman, albeit scanty.

One person said: “I understand your situation.

“It’s rude and annoying when someone demands you return the same amount of money for a gift when you earn a lot less.

“No matter how much you/he makes. It’s just rude and he sounds bitter and justified.”

Meanwhile, a woman said her fiancée ruined her vacation by bringing his children.

And this man’s wife was furious after he said he didn’t want to go on vacation with her.
