Wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer has speculated that AEW star Andrade El Idolo is trying to get fired from the promotion.
El Idolo was reportedly involved in a backstage fight with fellow AEW star Sammy Guevara prior to the last edition of Dynamite. The animosity began when Andrade claimed Guevara went behind his back and complained that he was working stiff in the ring, leading to an all-out verbal battle on Twitter.
Just before Dynamite went on the air, Tony Khan announced that the former NXT star’s scheduled October 7th match for Rampage had been scrapped, eventually leading to the report of the fight that resulted in Andrade being removed from the event was sent home.
However, Dave Meltzer speculated on Wrestling Observer Radio that this is part of a larger plan for Andrade El Idolo as the respected journalist believes the former WWE Superstar is trying to get fired from AEW.
“Andrade is trying to get fired, we all know that. When guys want to go, some go to great extremes to do so. It’s happened in WWE, I’ve spoken to people in WWE who’ve tried to get fired from some of the craziest things in the world, and I’ve told them it’s not going to work.” [H/T WrestleTalk]
Meltzer stated that both Andrade and Sammy were approached Tuesday night after their Twitter spat went viral. Both men were instructed not to fight each other under any circumstances. However, that didn’t go according to plan.
“They were both spoken to on Tuesday night and told not to fight. And Andrade was told, ‘If that’s your idea, you won’t get fired if you fight, but you’ll be sent home.’ … And Andrade said: “Don’t worry, nothing will happen, there will be no argument.” And that was Tuesday night. Sammy said the same thing: “Nothing’s going to happen.” They had security there that was warned about all the time.” [H/T WrestleTalk]
While Andrade El Idolo was sent home, Sammy Guevara was allowed to attend the AEW Dynamite Main Event
One thing that threw a pretty dark cloud over Dynamite’s 3rd Anniversary edition was the fact that even though Andrade El Idolo was sent home and a huge match for Rampage was scrapped, it didn’t affect Sammy Guevara too seemed to give.
Guevara managed the Dynamite show and teamed up with Chris Jericho to face off against Bryan Danielson and Daniel Garcia. Not only did Sammy get to be in the match, he was the man who hit the winning pinfall.
At the time of writing, there’s no word on what penalties Andrade El Idolo or Sammy Guevara are facing, but judging by how the backstage brawl between The Elite and CM Punk has unfolded, there will be consequences for both men very soon .
