York Minster welcomes new Assistant Organist Adam Wilson
York Minster will welcome Adam Wilson as its new Assistant Organist from 21st August.
Currently Assistant Director of Music at Wells Cathedral, Adam joins a team in York led by Music Director Robert Sharpe and assistant Benjamin Morris.

Robert said: “I’m excited to have Adam as part of our team and to work alongside Ben Morris and myself.
“He brings considerable experience from his time at Wells and I have no doubt he will enjoy being in York and learning about the Minster, its people and its organ.”

Adam leaves the role of chief organist at Wells to the cathedral choir, which has enabled him to accompany a full calendar of choral and civic services there.
York Minster’s great organ was renovated two years ago (picture: included)
Before working in Somerset, Adam was Assistant Director of Music at St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral in Edinburgh for two years.
He was involved in the restoration of the cathedral’s 1879 Father Willis organ.

In 2021, York Minster’s great organ played again after its ‘once in a century’ refurbishment.
A two-year program included the dismantling, cleaning and repair of the 5,400 pipes.
