York Montessori is looking to expand the Hospital Fields Road location
The application to York City Council is to extend the existing two-storey building from 237sqm to 399sqm, an increase of 162sqm, to provide further facilities.
The applicant, Helen Gration from York Montessori Nursery, says an additional classroom space could be created by building a first floor extension to an existing single storey extension (roof garden).
Additionally, the existing attic above the original building would be converted into additional study space, toilets and an office.
The development would provide safe access with modern security features and attractive modern facilities to meet the needs of users.
Headcount would increase from the current 15ft and 5 employees (17.5ft) to 19ft and 5 employees (22.5ft).
The application also stated that the nursery was located in Fulford’s industrial area and the plans would have no impact on neighboring homes.
Parking would remain at 28 spaces.
“We believe this is sufficient at a time when the government is calling for more economical and environmentally friendly transportation methods as part of sustainable living. The building will use sustainable traditional and modern materials that harmonize with the existing buildings adjacent to the site,” it said.
