As cliche as it may be, “Chapter Nineteen” by Your Honor is the essence of the “calm before the storm” episode. We’re now nearing the end of Season 2, and with several distinct but interconnected subplots bubbling away, this is the kind of hour destined to take it all to the brink of tipping over into disaster to mix. Things aren’t looking good for Michael, Eugene, Lee, or any of the show’s “good guys,” but neither are things looking good for the bad guys, even if they’re still a step or two ahead.

Anyway, let’s break it down.

Why does Michael have to testify at Eugene’s trial?

So let’s start with Eugene’s trial and why Michael will ultimately be forced to testify against him. In summary: The prosecution needs Michael as an eyewitness to Adam’s death because Lee has just convinced the jury that the witnesses present, namely the Baxter family, are not exactly reliable. You know, since they’re gangsters and everyone seems to know it.

To be fair, it was kind of ridiculous that Gina thought her statement would carry any weight when it was so breathtakingly obvious that her pulling the strings had gotten this ball rolling in the first place. She claimed to have seen Eugene very clearly pull the trigger, but Lee was concerned about the circumstances of Kofi Jones’ death and that Carlo had happened to be transferred to the same facility as Kofi at his mother’s request. The implication is clear. So the prosecution cannot rely on the jury to believe Gina’s testimony. So Michael was called to the witness stand.

Of course, Lee wants Michael in the stands, which he’s not willing to do. But he might have to. Or he could stand up and tell the whole truth, which wouldn’t be good news for anyone, since there’s been so much blatant corruption in New Orleans that everyone from himself to the mayor and the entire Baxter clan would be watching for a stretch in prison.

Why is Jimmy offering Michael a job?

You will remember episode 8, Michael had volunteered to take Jimmy down so Olivia wouldn’t use Fia as her insider instead. This plan begins in Chapter Nineteen, where Michael visits Jimmy, ostensibly to tell him that he has no intention of taking his place with Rocco and Fia. But as the two drive to the new Baxter development, Michael texts Olivia in the back of the car, right next to Jimmy, very suspiciously, and it’s a little unclear if Jimmy sees the messages or understands their true intent. Anyway, Michael is absolutely terrible at it.

But Jimmy can still use him, especially now that Gina keeps cutting him out of family affairs. He wants Michael to become his right-hand man so he can develop a legitimate business that isn’t under pressure from the Calabri family and his father-in-law.

Of course, Michael can’t trust Jimmy as far as he can throw him, which isn’t very far judging by his prison diet. But since Fia later tells Jimmy he’s being monitored by a US attorney, he pulls the plug on Baxter District anyway, meaning Michael’s job offer is likely to be rescinded.

Who is Lil Mo into?

Lil Mo gets an offer in Chapter Nineteen. He can either side with Chris, who plans to usurp Big Mo and usher in an era of Desire 2.0, or he can continue to side with his family, despite all the ways that family is wronged him (and actually at Chris’ expense). from his brother’s life.)

Ultimately, Lil Mo sides with Big Mo. He sells Chris and Big Mo shoots him and his fellow conspirators.

Obviously, Big Mo made a huge mistake with the shady drugs, and she was selfish in running the gang. But Lil Mo believes in family above all, and he couldn’t be forced to go against his own. Chris died proud of the disruption he had caused and the attitude he had taken, which I think will have to do.
